Jerez Feria

The Jerez Horse Fair - Feria del Caballo

jerez feria poster             The Jerez Feria is by far and away the largest and most renowned in Cadiz Province. Known as the "Feria del Caballo" (The Horse Festival), it boasts hundreds of finely groomed horses and highly polished carriages with impeccably dressed riders trotting up and down the main streets throughout the daylight hours. It usually begins a week after the end of the Seville Feria de Abril. Unlike the Seville Feria, all casetas in the Feria del Caballo are totally open to the public. Another peculiarity is that rather than requesting to have identical casetas, it allows each caseta to be designed in its own way - leading to a great sense of competitiveness between the neighbouring marquees!

Unsurprisingly, the Jerez Feria revolves around eating, drinking, dancing and of course, horseriding. The common drink is the local vino fino sherry wine and gastronomically there is great emphasis placed on fried fish and shellfish.

This is the biggest event in the Cadiz festive calendar. So if your holiday coincides with the Feria, go and have a look around, particularly during the day when you can see the horses and experience the more family orientated atmosphere.
