The Cities
Information about the cities of Cadiz and Jerez
A stroll around either of the two principle cities, Cadiz and Jerez, is imperative during any visit to the region to experience not only the
delights they offer, but also the true Andalucian way of life. Each with its own individual identity, they are home to magnificent cathedrals, rambling narrow old streets and many historical landmarks and museums.
JEREZ
Sherish – Xerez – Jerez. Named by the moors after its most famous creation, sherry, it is the fifth largest city in Andalucia and the largest in the province of Cadiz. Located between sea and mountains, it is the hub of economic production in the province and a city rich in culture. Wandering through the narrow streets of the old centre, one notes subtle aromas of sherry and will frequently see horse drawn carriages roll past. Jerez is an epicentre of tradition in
this province - home to the Royal Andalucian Equestrian Academy and the Andalucian Flamenco Centre.
If it is culture you are after, you will find it here. Wine tastings, Arabic baths, horse shows, historical monuments, gastronomy and flamenco. Days can be spent walking streets full of character, exploring its hidden plazas, tasting home grown wines and sampling local tapas. Jerez is a holiday in itself.
